Unikko 60th Anniversary | 50 x 70 cm + 70 x 100 cm

Unikko was created by Maija Isola in 1964 and has since become an international icon of print design. The founder of Marimekko, Armi Ratia, believed that it was not possible to faithfully capture the true essence of real flowers in print, which is why floral prints were earlier excluded from Marimekko collections. So, Maija Isola designed Unikko to be an abstraction of a flower rather than a photorealistic rendition. Today, Unikko is a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, seamlessly integrated into Marimekko's design identity.

Unikko Kollaasi - 50 x 70 cm

The year 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of Unikko, one of the most recognized Marimekko print designs in the world. Unikko Kollaasi combines various interpretations of the Unikko pattern into a charming patchwork that embodies timeless joy.

Siirto - 50 x 70 cm

Siirto (transition) is an abstract composition that draws inspiration from both the shapes of the Unikko print and Marimekko's Tasaraita (even stripe). The intertwining forms within the stripes create a dynamic pattern that is both forward-thinking and a tribute to Marimekko's past. Antti Kekki created Siirto using his characteristic paper cut technique.

Marikylä pattern - 50 x 70 cm

The Marikylä (Mari village) pattern depicts a village of love and happiness, where you can bump into your favorite horse lounging on a flower meadow or climb up a hill to have a bag lunch with friends. It is a place to go to, something to snuggle into, or someone to hug. Love, caring, being together and the right to be who you are. That’s what happiness is made of.
